Based on the novel of Chin Young aka Lois Cha, Legend of The Condor Heroes is the first part of the trilogy. This story took setting on Song Dynasty. It’s about sworn brother : Guo Xiao Tian and Yang Tie Sin, they lived peacefully at the village. One day a tao priest named Qiu Chu Ji came, and give name to their unborn children (Kuo Cin and Yang Kang) the name of the children carved to the daggers given by Qiu, and because of deep relationship between Guo Xiao Tian and Yang Tie Sin, they promise if their chidren born with the opposite gender, they will be married and they’ll became sworn brother if they born on same gender.
Because the fight with Jin soldier, this neighborhood is broken, Guo Xiao Tian killed during the fight, Yang Tie Sin disappeared, their wives Li Ping (Guo Xiao Tian’s wife) finally gives birth to Guo Cin at the desert and raised up Guo Cin at Mongolia under the care of Genghis Khan. Bao Xi Ruo (Yang Tie Sin’s wife) stayed Wanyan Hung Lie place. Wanyan Hung Lie is the Sixth prince of Jin.

Guo Cin and Yang Kang
Guo Cin grew up on Mongolia under the care of Genghis Khan, and learn Kung Fu from Seven Freaks, his chilhood friend si Genghis Khan son Tolui and daughter Hua Zheng. Hua Zheng was in love with Guo Cin. Genghis Khan gives Hua Zheng to Guo Cin to became his fiancee.
At his childhood time, Guo Cin was killed Chen Xuan Feng by accident and it makes him always got a nightmare and cannot be concerntate of learning Kung Fu. It makes the dissapointment of his teachers.
Yang Kang Grew up on Wanyan Hong Lie Place with and known as Wanyan Hong Lie’s son Wanyan Kang, he learn martial art from Qiu Chu Ji and also from Mei Chao Feng.

Guo Cin and Huang Rong

When Guo Cin back to Song territory, he met Huang Rong, at the first time they met Huang Rong dressed like a beggar and do a troubles at the town, she impressed with a kindness of Guo Cin, and after that they together begin the journey and meet many people and many troubles. Huang Rong is the daughter of Huang Yao Zhi the lord of Peach Blossom Islang (Tu Hua Dou). She is very naughty but very clever, she has photographic memory ability that she got from her late mother.
Yang Tie Xin who saved from the fighting with the Jin adopted a daughter named Mu Nian Ci and change his name to Mu Yi, he wanted to marry his daughter to the person who could defeat Mu Nian Ci at martial art. Yang Kang who doesn’t know about his real father joined an win that competition, he could defeat Mu Nian Ci and took her shoe, but he didn’t want to marry her. But actually Yang Kang fall in love with Mu Nian Ci.

The other Characters
Hong Qi Kong, the chief of Beggar Clan became Guo Cin Matrial Art teacher and teach him Eighteen Dragon Subduing Palms to him, and passed the chief position to Huang Rong.
Zhou Bo Tong, became Guo Cin sworn brother, he live at the cave on Peach Blossom Island, he meet Guo Cin when Guo Cin go to Peach Blossom Island, he teach Guo Cin Jiu Yang Zhhen Jing (Nine Yin Manual).
Ou Yang Feng aka Lao Tu or Western Venom is the father of Ou Yang Ke, he has ambition to learn Nine Yin Manual and finally became insane because Huang Rong and Guo Cin tells the fake one, and his son Ou Yang Ke is killed by Yang Kang because he loves Mu Nian Ci.

This is good movie, Ariel Lin plays Huang Rong very well, before the 2008 version, I also watch previous version which the character of Guo Cin played by Julian Cheung and Huang Rong played by Athena Chu, but I think Ariel Lin is better than Athena Chu. Before I watch this version I think no one could replace Barbara Yung to play the character of Huang Rong. I like when she called Guo Cin (Cin Ge Ge !!!) Justin Yuan did very well too, he could play the ambitious Yang Kang. I think Justin Yuan is good actor, he could play many characters (watch Liao Zhai – A Pao).
There’s some differences between old version (1983) with 2008 version. Honestly I watch the 1985 version several times, because at the first time I watch I was a little kids and doesn’t know whats the story about. I re-watch the 1983 version when I was on junior highschool and watch again on senior highschool. The next version I only watch once so I cannot talk much.
In this version we could find a good side from Ou Yang Ke, also Wanyen Hong Lie, not only as the father of Yang Kang, but also as the Jin. I impressed at the episode when together Wanyen Hong Lie, Mu Nian Ci and Ou Yang Ke fight the Mongol. We not only see a drama but also the martial art technique which presented in this series.

Ariel Lin as Huang Rong

The Sequel, the second part of the trilogy : Return of Condor Heroes
It tells about Yang Guo, Yang Kang and Mu Nian Ci son, in this story Guo Cin married to Huang Rong and has daughter who cut Yang Guo’s arm. I don’t really like the story : Return of Condor Heroes and haven’t watch the new version yet. I watch the Andy Lau version which is so long long time ago.
